In November 2016, a U.S. Central Command P-8A aircraft observed an unidentified low-flying object northwest of Latakia, Syria.

On November 18, 2016, a P-8A aircraft, while conducting operations in the Eastern Mediterranean, observed an unidentified low-flying object 55 nautical miles northwest of Latakia, Syria. The object, of unknown origin, was traveling at approximately 500 knots on a southeast heading for about 2 minutes. The P-8A crew described the weather as clear with no visibility limitations. The mission commander characterized the interaction as safe and assessed it to be standard activity consistent with the assessed activity of the KCTG.
